If you’re from the Pensacola area, then you’ve most likely heard of Trader Jon’s, founded in 1953. The famous aviation-themed bar featured an extensive collection of Naval Aviation paraphernalia, and was a favorite to locals as well as aviation enthusiasts alike.
If you ever had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Martin Weissman, aka Trader Jon, you’d agree that he was quite the character. Being a long-time family friend, I have many fond memories of Trader & his wife Jackii. Their daughters Cheri & Dahl are those I would consider a friend for life, and it’s evident that their father’s warm spirit lives within.
I was excited to read in the Pensacola News Journal that T.T. Wentworth Museum will open their exhibit to the public in October in honor of the Trader Jon and will be designed to mirror the bar as closely as possible. Below is a link to the full article, and for those not quite old enough to remember the legend, a link to his Pensapedia page to learn why after almost 16 years after his death, his legacy lives on in the hearts of Pensacolians.
